Muthi Nhlema
Muthi Nhlema, holder of an MBA from Heriot-Watt University, is a trained civil engineer who could never convince himself to love cement and bricks enough to go in fully. After several post-graduate years wandering in the professional wilderness (where he somehow co-founded a theater for development organization, worked with women MPs, coordinated a leadership development program, and co-produced a series of urban hip-hop events), Muthi’s restless spirit settled in Malawi’s water sector in 2010. There he developed an inexplicable interest for all things related to sustainability, systems, and data while working for Water For People Malawi. Alarmed by the lack of sectoral urgency to address the problem of dwindling groundwater supplies, Muthi founded the award-winning social enterprise BASEflow in 2017. In his mostly non-existent spare time, Muthi enjoys gazing at the blinking cursor on an empty Word document, daring him to write science fiction stories depicting alternate histories across a futuristic Africa.
