An illustrated portrait of Hugues Hardy Ruremesha

Hugues Hardy Ruremesha

Growing up as a Boy Scout in an underprivileged community, Hardy learned from a younger age how to serve others. At the age of nine, he wanted to leave home and go live with street children but was encouraged by his mother, a teacher, to continue his education so that he would eventually find a way to help those children later.  After graduating from high school at 21 years old, Hardy formed Spring Communities by engaging youth to drive social change. He is determined to reach an ideal where every young person is a changemaker in their community.

Hardy has almost a decade of experience working with vulnerable communities. He is a former curator of Global Shapers Community Bujumbura Hub, Holland alumni, and Theirworld’s Global Youth Ambassador alumni.  He holds a bachelor’s degree in international business from the University of Burundi, and a certification in local finance and fiscal decentralization from The Hague Academy for Local Governance. In 2020, he was recognized as one of 10 youth who are making a difference in Burundi. In his spare time, Hardy enjoys swimming, hiking, and spending time with his friends and family.
