Benjamin Wachira
Dr. Benjamin W. Wachira is an emergency medicine physician working to strengthen emergency healthcare systems in Kenya and across Africa, particularly in settings where they are limited or have been historically neglected. He is the founder and executive director of the Emergency Medicine Kenya Foundation, which has played a central role in advancing public emergency departments, establishing public ambulance services, and embedding emergency medical care within existing healthcare systems in Kenya to deliver impact at scale.
Dr. Wachira has contributed to the development and nationwide implementation of emergency medical care policies and standards; he has also championed workforce development, regional collaboration, and evidence-based emergency medical care across the continent. An assistant professor and a prolific researcher, Dr. Wachira bridges clinical practice, policy, and systems design to drive sustainable improvements in emergency healthcare.
